Proboscis Monkey: The Clown of the Forest

The proboscis monkey, native to the mangrove forests of Borneo, is known for its comically large nose and potbelly. While its appearance might be humorous, the proboscis monkey’s nose plays an important role in attracting mates. The larger the nose, the more appealing the male is to females!

These monkeys are excellent swimmers, often leaping into rivers to escape predators. Their webbed feet and hands make them adept at navigating the waterways of their swampy home. Proboscis monkeys live in tight-knit groups, communicating through honks and calls that echo through the forest. Sadly, their unique habitat is under threat from deforestation, pushing this fascinating species closer to extinction.
