Snow Leopard: The Ghost of the Mountains
Deep in the Himalayas and Central Asian ranges, the snow leopard roams silently. These predators are masters of stealth, their thick, spotted coats blending seamlessly with the rocky landscapes. A snow leopard’s tail, long and bushy, serves multiple purposes: balancing on steep cliffs, signaling during social interactions, and even acting as a warm blanket during cold nights.
Snow leopards are primarily nocturnal, hunting at dusk or dawn. Their main prey includes ibex and blue sheep, which they stalk over long distances before launching a surprise attack. Despite their incredible adaptations, snow leopards face threats from poaching and habitat loss. Programs like the Snow Leopard Trust are working to protect these majestic creatures and their mountain ecosystems.
