Call of the Wildlands

Grizzly Bear: The Forest Guardian

Grizzly bears, iconic symbols of the North American wilderness, are among the most powerful land predators. Found in forests, tundras, and mountain ranges, these bears can weigh up to 800 pounds and stand over 7 feet tall on their hind legs. Despite their size, grizzlies are surprisingly fast, reaching speeds of 35 miles per hour.

Grizzlies are omnivores, feeding on a diet that includes berries, fish, insects, and small mammals. During the salmon run, they gather at rivers to catch fish with their massive paws, a spectacle that attracts nature lovers worldwide. In preparation for hibernation, grizzlies consume up to 20,000 calories a day, building the fat reserves they need to survive winter.

Mother grizzlies are fiercely protective of their cubs, teaching them how to forage and defend themselves. While they are awe-inspiring, grizzlies face challenges from habitat loss and conflicts with humans. Efforts to preserve their habitats in national parks and reserves are critical to their survival.
